Mary Rice is David's mother who left the family four years prior to the start of the series due to her husband's abusive behavior.

History[]

After being severely beaten by her husband which resulted in her being put at the hospital, Mary eventually divorced him and left the house but was unable to take David with her due to unknown circumstances.

David manages to locate and reunite with his long-lost mother. Mary explained to him that all her attempts to contact David over the years were intercepted by his father who destroyed all her letters and took the money she sent for David.

While on a business trip, she was killed by terrorists led by Rashid Matar when her plane is hijacked.

Movie[]

Mary left David when he was just five years old with no explanation given at the time. When David was arrested in Rome by the police for trespassing, he is handcuffed and kept in an inspectors office. Shortly after the inspector leaves the room, Mary appears and releases him from the cuffs and tells him he only has a few minutes to leave before she runs out of the room. Later on, when David is at Griffin's hideout, he sees numerous pictures of Paladins on the walls and one picture is of Mary making David realize that his mom is a Paladin. At the end of the film, David finds out where Mary lives and confronts her about her secret life. Mary confesses that the reason that she left David is because he was five years old when he first jumped. Even though she knew David was a jumper, she couldn't bring herself to kill him so she left him and his dad. Mary gives David a hug good-bye and lets him know that she'll give him a headstart.
